My name (how to cite and pronounce)

My last name is "De Cruz"

To cite it, please always include the particle "De" (so "De Cruz argues" and not "Cruz argues”), as it is an integral part of the name. Also please capitalize "De"

The name is of Portuguese origin, and dates to the sixteenth century when Portuguese seafarers landed in Malacca, Malaysia and began to trade there (and alas, more than that). The name still circulates there in the local Kristang community--a creole ethnic group with Portuguese, Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous ancestry. I trace my ancestry to Eurasian and ethnic Chinese (Hokkien) people (through my father's side) and to Belgium (from my mother's side).

How to pronounce: It's like the Spanish pronunciation. Phonetic: dɛ krus
